People who visit America get surprised by the number of workers who are accustomed to getting tips. They are left wondering on the amount of tip they are supposed to give. This has resulted from some Americans who visit other countries and give tips excessively. It is good for one to learn the tipping practice in different countries.
How tips are done in the UK.
People in the UK do not tip on many things like the Americans. Tips are usually given in clubs, bars and restaurants. Failing to tip in these places are treated as dissatisfaction with the service by the customer. In some cases such as a party that is organized, tips are usually added to the total cost. The additional cost acts as a the tip. Failure to do this is considered as rude.
Tipping is not expected in some cases, such as a taxi service. Tipping in such a case would be done more casually, such as by rounding off the money to a denomination that is close, in a higher value. Tips in other areas than the hotel are not required in a big way. In hairdressers, for example, one is not obliged to pay the tip. However, one can tell the person providing the service to keep change.
Tipping in Italy.
The services in Italy restaurants are incredible. Italians, however, do not have a tipping culture. You will rarely find an Italian using an online tipping calculator. This is even with the good services. One might, however, round off the bill due to generosity, or if it is convenient to do so. The workers rarely expect a tip. The reason why tipping in Italy is not considered a culture in Italy is because waiters are professional, respectable, and get a good job. Since Italian waiters are professional, they give their services in a good way without expecting a tip.
Tips in India.
India has grown a lot in the market, and had a lot of visitors from Europe and the USA. The tipping practice was not there before in India, but the visits has increased this. When the service is excellent in India, you give a tip of about 5 and 10 percent.
In Japan, people who have good services retreated with respect, but are rarely given tips. Tipping is not considered as a bad thing in Japan, because many people are exposed to the western culture.
Tips in South America.
In case a tip is expected in South America, it is often added to the bill’s amount. Depending on the place, the tip might vary in between 10 and 15 percent.
